As an Architectural Designer, I have had the opportunity to design numerous homes in different parts of the world. However, this home in the Tramontana mountains of Mallorca is a unique project that has captured my full heart and attention for personal reasons. The design inspiration of the home is clearly influenced by Mies Van Der Rohe's architecture, but with a twist on landscape integration since the house is located in a 20,000 sft private land between the towns of Soller and Deia.
The primary goal of the design was to create a home that seamlessly blends with the natural landscape of the Tramontana mountains, which are classified as world heritage by Unesco. To achieve this, we took a minimalistic approach to the design by incorporating simple volumes that contrast with the omnipresent landscape in the background. The volumes are a mixed design reference between the Farnsworth house and the Barcelona Pavilion, while “a La Mallorquina”, meaning using as much of the local Mallorqui stone and masonry as possible.
In C’an Bosco mountain home design, we used simple volumes and materials such as steel, glass, and concrete to create a sleek and elegant structure that blends with the natural surroundings. The volumes are strategically placed to frame the stunning views of the mountains, and the large glass windows create a seamless connection between the interior and exterior spaces.
One of the unique features of C’an Bosco’s design is the use of a flat roof. Unlike traditional Mallorqui homes that use pitched roofs, a flat roof creates a minimalist look and allows the home to blend with the landscape seamlessly. The roof also serves as an additional outdoor space that can be used for entertainment or relaxation, offering stunning views of the Tramontana mountains.
The landscape integration is an essential aspect of the design, and we took great care to ensure that the home blends with the surroundings seamlessly. The home is located in a 20,000 sft private land between the towns of Soller and Deia, creating a sense of seclusion and privacy. The natural landscaping around the home has been preserved, and the exterior design uses natural materials such as stone and wood to create a harmonious relationship between the home and the environment.
